The amount of disappointment I have been feeling because of these types of pastors lately is astounding. Although I wasn't a huge fan of Mike Todd, I still hadn't put him on my "never listen to this guy ever" list.
That Changed last night.
During a sermon, Mike spit in his hand and then rubbed his spit all over a church member's face. He did this in reference to Mark 8:22-26 when Jesus healed a blind man by spitting on the man's eyes. Beyond just using this as an illustration of what happened in the Bible, Mike then went on to twist the scripture into a "motivational speech" about how God's "vision for you can get ugly" as he wiped his spit all over this man's face.
This type of nonsense is seen over and over again in American Churches today. These pastors find it somehow a necessity to "entertain" and "inspire" their congregation instead of leading them in Truth and spiritual growth. This turns people away from true Christianity and a true walk with Christ.
We need to pray for these pastors. These pastors like Mike Todd could be using their reach to bring glory to God, but instead, they are making a mockery of our faith and spitting in the face of not only their church members but in the face of Christ Himself.
UPDATE: THIS WASN'T THE FIRST TIME THAT MIKE TODD USED THE SPIT ANALOGY
So apparently, Mike Todd has used this same "spit" analogy before.
Here's the video of it:
